Geopolitics and the Global Trade System After the Pandemic:
A Conversation with General David Petraeus
With General David Petraeus, Partner, KKR; Chairman, KKR Global Institute
As the US and world economies emerge from lockdowns, how will the global trade system be impacted? Trends before the emergence of the pandemic suggested growing protectionism, globalization in reverse, the decoupling of the US and Chinese economies and the fragmentation of global supply chains. Should rolling dislocations be expected or a new period of global cooperation in the interest of international peace and security? Are trade wars inevitable? Is the international economic and financial order on the verge of a breakdown as what happened in the 1930s?
General David Petraeus, a keen observer of international geopolitical trends, offers his insights on topics such as cross border M&A, government procurement and foreign direct investment. Register early for this provocative session as only 100 attendees are permitted.
Registrants understand and agree to the following: “When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed.”
General David Petraeus is a Partner with the global investment firm KKR and Chairman of the KKR Global Institute, which he established in June 2013. He is also a personal venture capitalist and serves on the boards of KKR companies OneStream and Optiv. Before joining KKR, he served in government for 38-1/2 years, culminating his 37-year military career with six consecutive commands as a general officer, five of which were in combat, and then serving as Director of the CIA, after Senate confirmation by a vote of 94-0. He graduated with distinction from the US Military Academy in 1974 and later earned a Ph.D. at Princeton University. He has subsequently held academic appointments at West Point, the City University of New York’s Honors College, Harvard, the University of Southern California, and Yale.
