Selling and shipping your goods across the border to Canada is not the most difficult thing to do, in theory. But doing it well and knowing your rights and obligations will not only keep you out of trouble, it will give you the edge against your competitors. It will also go a long way in ensuring your Canadian customers are happy and contribute to the success of your Canadian business.
While NAFTA brought the USA and Canada even closer as trading partners, the process of clearing shipments across our common border never was streamlined. Customs rules in Canada can differ drastically from the U.S. rules, even if they ultimately come from and adhere to the same WTO principles. It is in their day to day application that the differences lie.
